Review # 1 was written on 2010-01-13 00:00:00 David Kaufman Mis-titled because it is actually an interpretive guide not a hiking guide. Neither maps nor precise hiking directions are included. Instead, 31 hikes in the Mt. Hood National Forest are each chosen to illustrate some aspect of the local ecology, watersheds, fish, tree succession, medicinal use of local plants by Native Americans, history of native tribes or white emigrant settlers, Forest Service or WPA or CCC history, etc. Quite interesting, particularly if one has hiked extensively in the area. |
Review # 2 was written on 2010-03-12 00:00:00 Arzie Nelson This says, on the cover, "31 scenic hikes" so I can perhaps be forgiven for thinking I was picking up a guidebook. With maybe some maps or trail descriptions? Not so much, though the essays about the hikes were interesting enough, and Sinclair does refer one to the proper maps for each trail. Still, had I wanted essays, I wouldn't have been shopping in the guidebook section. |
