Review # 1 was written on 2008-10-30 00:00:00 Edmond Osborn When I first started this book, I was grossly disappointed. It set teachers at an adversarial tone with students and even other teachers. Not at all what our profession would like to advocate in terms of ethics. As the book continued and especially after I passed the part talking about "how to get students", it became much more friendly. It wasn't nearly as helpful or practical as the Voice teachers Handbook, but it did have some nice tips that I plan to incorporate. It also used some terms that I appreciate. It treated music teachers as musicians. I know that doesn't sound like much of a distinction, but in school, it is. Sometimes, students who go on to graduate degrees and who "recital" for a living, think that the phrase "those who can, do and those who can't, teach" is accurate in our field and I don't believe so. Even if I never teach a student who becomes a professional opera singer, I am still a professional in my field and I am providing a valuable service to my community. It was a nice change of pace. Although it is definitely written by a guitarist and geared more for instrumentalists-rock ones in particular-it had plenty to apply to all studios regardless of instrument. I'm not sure I'd suggest buying it, but anyone who would like is welcome to borrow mine. :-)

Review # 2 was written on 2013-03-05 00:00:00 Laura Heikkinen While the book has a wide range of advice and resources, it's fairly repetitive. I felt that most of the material could have been covered well in a brochure or two. But I guess they are taking their own advice and making more money from the same material.
