Review # 1 was written on 2019-11-06 00:00:00 Robert Armstrong I didn't read the whole book. Actually I read mostly the short biographies. What I really like is that the book is full of writers I've never heard of, writers such as Owen Dodson, Max Miller, Saunders Redding, and James David Corrothers. There aren't many women writers included in this compilation, and I 'm surprised Hurston is one of the few. For me the book is an opportunity to know of, read, buy some good books, and then, sneak them into the house. What I didn't like is the authors' unnecessary critical assessments of writers' work, but since this is an older book, published in 1971, maybe that's what they did back then.

Review # 2 was written on 2015-06-18 00:00:00 Ira Belfer One of the best studies I've ever read of C.S. Lewis's social and ethical thought. It's a very meaty, meditative analysis that at the same time is accessible and readable -- quite an accomplishment. Meilaender argues that Lewis's central premise in his theological works is: "All human beings are made for life in community with God (and, thereby, with one another)." This vision is brilliantly illustrated in this book, and I'd recommend this study to anyone who wants to look more deeply into C.S. Lewis's thought.
