Review # 1 was written on 2014-11-15 00:00:00 Damon Anker Handy little guide to all-things-London. I've checked this out a few times at the library and enjoyed it each time. It has art, photos (recent and historic), history...plus the best part: tiny snippets about many Londonium monuments. Neat little guide. |
Review # 2 was written on 2021-02-07 00:00:00 Brian Danis A delightful history of the building of the Forth Rail Bridge, which crosses the Forth estuary, north of Edinburgh, in Scotland. Prior to this bridge's erection, the "Firth of Forth" was too wide to cross with a single span, but in 1883, work began on a new type of bridge; the first with a steel superstructure. It is still today considered one of the wonders of the engineering world. This collection of photographs, anecdotes and tales from the builders themselves is unparallelled among such accounts. An essential addition to the shelves of engineering enthusiasts and historians alike, it is also highly valuable to those of us who have ancestors who worked on the bridge between 1883 and its opening in 1890. |
