Review # 1 was written on 2012-02-11 00:00:00 Joe Anchondo Absolutely amazing book and necessary for anyone interested in late Ottoman history. This book basically chronicles the ways in which the Ottoman empire was slowly destroyed by it's subjects with the help of the Great Powers, England, France, Austria and especially Russia. It also describes the way in which Muslims were ethnically cleansed from the lands "liberated" by the Great powers. Often these powers would actively support these groups, overlooking the fact that they engaged in large scale massacres of Muslims, while attacking the Ottomans for doing the same thing. Although sometimes bias and apologetic for the Ottomans, this book is sorely needed in the west where all we ever hear about is how evil the Ottomans and Muslims in general were. |
