Review # 1 was written on 2010-12-15 00:00:00 Beverly Coker Bernard Graham Shaw's book is an excellent guide into the world of voice-overs. Very much a practical guide this text includes voice-over scripts coupled with a corresponding disc that provides a modelling tool for your own development. Also the backing tracks allows for a polished atmosphere within your rehearsals. This book directly highlights the subject of different vocal registers used to suit various categories of commercials, announcements, and documentaries such as the hard sell, wildlife observer, and the announcer. Each register is explored, explaining the unique features to deliver clarity of thought and diction, and above all the ability to communicate subtle thoughts and desires. A practical guide indeed. |
Review # 2 was written on 2015-02-19 00:00:00 Philip Couch This is a fantastic and practical guide. I really like his advice and his sense of humour was refreshing. Although a lot of the info provided (contacts, pricings etc.), is old and probably not relevent, the scripts, styles and how to do it all is very much current. Very helpful indeed. I think though, he spent too much time on script works, and not enough time on tips and advice for the beginners. Although, this book may not really qualify as a beginners guide I suppose. Thoroughly enjoyable, helpful and easy to read; well worth the investment. :) |
