Some needed realism for conservatives and libertarians, and worthwhile knowledge of political grey areas. He's most intriguing when he's not trying to neo-con us. Plus, even in a pragmatic book like this it's still lamentable that David really doesn't understand or appreciate orthodox Christianity, or a rigorous virtue ethic. This is demonstrated especially by his foreign policy opinions and by his simplistic secularist 'religion' is about 'getting to heaven' rhetoric.

The section of the book entitlted "the Art of Political War" was very interesting. The summmary is that conservatives don't do a good job of engaging in the war to win, and so as a consequence, the American public, which is indeed generally conservative, think they are Democrats. In other words, many Americans vote to the left of who they really are. But that was only one section of the book. I hadn't expected that this was an amalgamation of various topics. Not that the other topics were necessarily uninteresting, its just that I expected the whole book to be related to the title. So I was a little disappointed.
