This book provides a History of the people involved in the Ranching business in parts of Canada and the U.S. telling how and why different breeds of cattle were introduced to N. America. Mr. Ewing ranched in the Porcupine Hills of Alberta which is one of the most scenic areas in North America. and where i was lucky enough to be involved in one of the last Cattle Drives before the roads improved to allow Trucking to take over. There are many wonderful stories of the characters involved in the development of the Industry which is very different from the Feedlot business. Cattle have a better life on open pasture and grass fed beef tastes so much better. My Father in Law was born and raised in the Porcupine Hills and shares a trait with Ranching people in general, Honesty and Integrity and the desire to protect and preserve the Land for future Generations. As the Author explains, the Ranch is not an easy way to make money and is for the most part a Way of Life with many Ups and Downs. Mr. Ewing obviously spent a lot of time and effort on this book and along with his previous book, The RANGE has added to the very interesting history of the Settlement of the West.

This is research for the book I'm writing. It's not a page-turner, but it's good information I can use to make the setting come to life.
