Given that Alma Dawson is a die-hard fighter for more diversity in books, I expected the book to feature more African-American authors, as well as genre fiction and non-fiction....However, the book focuses on ALL fiction books and the genres that they fit into that feature African American protagonists. PERIOD, It didn't matter the setting, the genre, the plot, the characters, the historical bits, etc. Plus a brief book talk about it....Now, don't get me wrong, if it had been published this year (2018) instead of 2004, it would still be outdated.... I have been trying to find more diversified authors for some of our community's readers, but we just don't carry that much, or there must not be enough representation from publishers. I'm not sure.. |
