Rabbi Wolpe understands the challenges of speaking about metaphysical concepts to children who are only beginning to understand the concrete world. As adults, we don't necessarily even have the words or tools to fully understand our own journey with the divine. However the book is very useful in trying to connect the dots back to our kids so that they can benefit from sharing some of the most wonderful parts of the human experience- that of experiencing God in our lives.

I first came across Rabbi Wolpe on the Huffington Post website. He had written a very pleasant blog entry related teaching children about God, and received--quite literally--hundreds of angry, sneering responses (mostly from the lefty assholes who regularly frequent websites like the HuffPo). Personally I thought what he wrote was lovely, so I sought out his book. Wolpe is Jewish, obviously, but his advice to parents about how to talk about God and God-related issues, like death, evil, thankfulness, etc. is applicable to any family of faith. I love the little teaching stories he sprinkles throughout, and I found his tone to be tremendously kind and gentle, as though the reader was being told a story sitting on his or her grandfather's lap. Rabbi Wolpe has written a book about faith, too,and I am planning on reading it.
