JOurney to a New Land: an Oral History is based on the story of a young Italian imigrant, Elda Del Bino Willits. This is a story about a fmaily who struggled to maek ends meet in Italy and therefore their family split up and the young girl's dad and brother set off to America to start a new life with the intention that the rest of the family would soon follow. The family's journey was not free of struggle and disappointments and depicts a true account of what families went through during that time period. At the end of the book, the author includes some facts about the immigrants who came through Ellis Island. This book would be great for a unit on immigration with students ages 8-12. Students will be able to identofy with the young girl as she struggles to bring her family back together and make sense of her new life.

Good book. This is the second time we have read it. 1st time was over a year ago and the kids remembered the book. Goes great to read this book after reading "If your named changed at Ellis Island" when studying wk#16 CC3 Immigrants to the U.S.
