I am definitely bias where this book is concerned, but it is by far one of the more insightful books about exchanges, futures, and the markets as a whole. Yes, it is an autobiography. However, it more a story about real leadership and the birth of innovation. For those considering the book, I would suggest that you don't consider the epilogue something to be skiipped. It is as important as any other part of the book. It's almost sad to think this wake-up call was written in the context of another crisis more than a decade ago. It is depressing that they regulators still appear to need the eloquently written words of a market leader. After one reads this book and considers current circumstances with respect to the "innnovations of today" I think it becomes glaringly clear the potential problems and pitfalls that have the potential to occur in a world desperate to regulate and control that which it hasn't taken the time to understand.

It's a good storybook about the Davis family. The biographical content wasnt too great, and the investment/ finance related content was much below par. They ran too diversified a portfolio, had family issues (as most families do :)) and had a fair share of adventures. But they did have the right attitude for investing for the long term, and of course, backed it up with prudence and good work. One may give this book a pass.
