Review # 1 was written on 2020-10-26 00:00:00 James Houston This book is a collection of previously published essays and magazine/newspaper articles, most of which were published 2004-2006. Each is brief (12 essays in 100 pages), and presents the authors own point of view. Sometimes this is backed up by research or evidence, sometimes not. While I would have liked more data, this collection does give the reader a good introduction to many facets of bilingual education. With the exception of one essay early in the book, the authors advocate to varying degrees bilingual education that maintains students' heritage language. The three essays that stood out to me were the one by Mariana Souto-Manning, the one on dual language classrooms by Jill Wu, and the one on No Child Left Behind by Wayne Wright. |
Review # 2 was written on 2014-02-05 00:00:00 James Hoffine This is a cute book to teach children about music and another country. Mickey and Minnie go on an adventure in Spain for their newspaper. Mickey and Minnie meet lots of new friends through the power of music. This would be cute for kids to learn about the power of music and the culture of Spain. |
