I enjoyed reading Philosophy of Christian School Education and trust that it will help me in my teaching in the years ahead. The practical, insightful, and Biblical information will be a solid resource to reference for any teacher. I recommend this book to anyone looking to develop their own philosophy of Christian education, or anyone who is looking for practical insights into the world of teaching and Christian education. I especially recommend this book to first year teachers and anyone new to Christian education. From my review on Amazon: This review was first published on my blog:

Some brief observations. This book is a compilation of articles from a veritable who's who among Christian educators. Its diversity of voices is a real strength. Also, because authorship changes from chapter to chapter, it is much more focused than some books on education, and makes a great reference when particular areas such as curriculum are being addressed. My favorite chapter was 16: Reinforcing a Personal Knowledge of Social Atmosphere and Relationships. But I tend to think that Christian schools (and all schools for that matter) need to give a good deal more thought to aspects of community. One thing I wish was part of the book is a more direct engagement with some of the common weaknesses of Christian schools, such as letting the textbook company drive the microcomponents of learning(briefly mentioned, but needs sketching out), the idolatry of technology, the need for intellectual humility, etc. If you want to engage such topics, however, I recommend Teaching Redemptively by Donovan L Graham or even The End of Education by Neil Postman. A great reference book, when taken as that. A good introduction to Christian Ed as well.
