Fascinating. Did not know this book existed until I received it as a Christmas present in 2017 from our youngest daughter. My wife and I have in effect driven across Canada although not all as part of one journey. The Trans-Canada highway was not complete when I was growing up so I have recollections of being pulled through mud in Saskatchewan and driving though parts of the Canadian Shield in Ontario when the final pieces were being completed. Today much of it is four lanes wide, or more, and the speed limits have been increased. I just wish I had had this book before our more recent trips, particularly in British Columbia where we have at various times driven on Highways 1, 3 and 5. On occasion time was taken to read the roadside signs, on others time seemed to be paramount. Having also taken the train both on the CPR when it offered that service, and the CNR using VIA, the views from those water level routes are stunning. I am amazed that anyone would set out at night on many sections of what was traveled, particularly in the mountains. Even today portions of the highway can appear intimidating. Two trips were made in a Reo (named after Ransom E Olds) Special Touring car 85 years apart in 1912 and 1997. Wherever possible the second trip followed the original route, a testament to the car and the adventurous spirit of those making the trip. A must read. Footnote: My copy is like new but does not have the exterior cover shown above. I assume this was not in good condition but protected the hard cover leaving it unmarked, virtually new.

When I was in High School I studied Biology, and one unusual aspect was in the exams they did a series of multiple choice questions, and you had to choose the incorrect answer, I get the sort of vibe here with this book, I get the joke and it is somewhat humorous but it grows old pretty quickly. I think I just would have preferred the normal hey want to live for Christ here are some helpful steps. The occasional step onto moralising didn't help either. Anyway it sounds like I didn't enjoy it, I did have some issues, but there was still the understanding that this was a book designed to help you grow in Christ, I just wish it had of dropped some of the perceived arrogance and gone for positive - I think I would have enjoyed it more.
