Review # 1 was written on 2012-07-07 00:00:00 Ariel Levien The book goes through the development of concept of science and technology in Japan from political and social view point. The concept of science itself was "foreign" in nature because most modern science was imported from western world. So Japan had to problem distinguishing itself from the west. For that, firstly they emphasized on concept of Wester science and Japanese Ethics. But this concept was in vain when they were fighting war with china, british, russia and america. In post-war period, the struggle of academics and politicians to prevent depression in new generation in the field of science and technology was done by heavily investing on this field. These and similar other things are well documented in this book. |
