Very challenging read. Difficult academic prose that is a culmination of various sociologist academics summarising different aspects of Weber's magnum opus: Economy and Society. Not accessible and definitely targeted for high level academia.

I should create a new shelf called got lost halfway for this book. I started reading it while traveling through Asia and I found the themes accurate, particularly during low energy moments when the world seemed mostly fucked up. I don't actually think it is though, so I found the authors constant negative tone to be monotonous and not overly constructive. This book sat on my shelf half completed for over a year while I returned to participate in the 'free market' that the book deplores and I never got the appetite to finish it. If you haven't formed a crystallised opinion on capitalism, globalisation and the ever increasing pace of life, it will leave you wanting to join a hippie commune. But if you've already read other books on the subject, and resigned to it I'd give this book a miss. I do wonder if it did actually offer any solutions?
