An informative book that discusses peace medals that were created and then distributed to American Indians during the colonization period of North America. Britain, Spain, and the United States were infamous for approaching tribes and giving out medals to chiefs--these medals were meant to be a sign of good faith, friendship, and essentially attempted to create alliances. This book covers some of the details of why these medals were created, how they were given out, and includes lots of information about individual medals as well. Many great photographic examples.

Little known facts about a little known part of American history. I appreciated seeing actual photos on page 89 of the coin my Cherokee ggg grandfather received at Springplace Moravian Mission School near Chatsworth, Georgia.
