Review # 2 was written on 2017-10-12 00:00:00 Tyrone Mata jr Great historical legal novel written by one of the defense lawyers for the Sharpeville Six, a criminal trial in apartheid South Africa emblematic of a twisted power structure. Not solely a dry courtroom affair, this book takes the time to chronicle the human experience of those caught in this calamity. Notes and reference section is very well put together. This trial garnered international attention and outrage in the late 80's and any clear-minded individual is sure to feel the same. As this book was published very soon after the final (final?) decision in 1990, it sorely needs an epilogue in a new edition. Especially since apartheid began to unravel that very year. I was so frantic for more information I went and found some online and wrote my own epilogue on a sheet of paper shoved at the back of the book, but to reveal it here is a spoiler. Safe to say the conclusion of the book isn't the conclusion of this story and you'll have to do some digging. Also, why is the author listed as only "Diar"? His name is Prakash Diar. I wouldn't mind an update on him as well. |
