Review # 1 was written on 2020-05-03 00:00:00 Paul Nixon I forget how I was actually turned onto this book. I am rather certain my first copy was purchased in Cape May in the late 1980s. It's possible it was in 1991, but I don't think so. Anyhow, interestingly, after I read the book, I wrote my name and date inside the front cover. I then gave the book to a buddy of mine with the instructions to sign the cover and pass it on after it was read. I hope that book is still traveling today. Why I did that, I do not know. I don't recall having heard of that before. Perhaps years before BookCrossing was formed, I was doing it. Ha! Anyhow, at some point, I went out and purchased another copy of this. It was definitely prior to 1998 while I was still in my liberal stage. :) Even so, this is a good speech. History questions the authenticity of it. I am sure, like most things, there are grains of truth to it. Who knows? It does highlight different perspectives, which is interesting. I attempt to present how the Lenni-Lenape's world view was different from the settlers. Owning land is a foreign concept to them. Chief Seattle thought similarly. It's an interesting read and worth the effort. |
