Review # 1 was written on 2013-01-01 00:00:00 Kenneth So Cataloger's Judgment is a compilation of items from Weitz' Q&A column in the Music OCLC Users Group (MOUG) newsletter. It is organized into chapters by topic: Input a New Record, Sound Recordings, Man and Added Entries, Titles, Description and Related Fields, Notes, Subject Access, Numbers, Fixed Fields, and OCLC Services. Each chapter also has a number of titled subsections. Each question and answer is numbered, and the indexes use these numbers rather than pages, which makes things easy to find. The content of this book represents real issues and problems from working music catalogers, which is wonderful for seeing how cataloging rules, interpretations, and policies play out in the real world. The questions and answers range from the general to the very, very specific and cover both AACR2 and MARC topics. Weitz also includes older questions and answers, which brings in historical material and perspectives. |
