Short and informative. Given the nature of this publication, it does not go into detail. I suppose I will keep it on my shelf as a quick reference book. Reading it though, however, I found myself hurrying through the book, but it didn't leave any emotional impact. I have some previous knowledge of Irish history, so only four names were actually new to me. If you want more detail, it's fair enough to say that you have to turn to other books. Still, I had the feeling there were so many wasted chances. For instance: there is some ambiguity whether Theobald Wolfe Tone really tried to slit his own throat, or he might have been tortured by British soldiers. Why is that not worth a one-sentence acknowledgement? And who said only 18 rebels can be introduced? John Stewart Parnell or Roger Casement, for example, were not worthy enough to be considered rebels? Oh well - if you have no idea about the subject matter, the publication gives you a first brief overview of Irish history, but don't expect anything else.

This is my kind of Irish history -in 120 pages , she gives you a short chapter on 18 great Irish rebels from the 1500's until the present. This has everything I missed in the other history of Ireland book I read, and it was a great companion as I visited Dublin, Belfast and Derry where alot of the rebelling happened.
