Review # 1 was written on 2013-10-27 00:00:00 Sean Fitzpatrick I did not finish this book. It was dully written that I was quite surprised. Having read many other books on art (and history of art) I was quite surprised by my lack of interest on this book. It's a good thing I guess that I got it for free from my university. |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-12-17 00:00:00 James Moore The tone is pretty prescribed, but the authors' love of film was apparent to me through 500+ pages of dense detail. The history itself always shone through too despite the micro focus of most sections - there's a clear narrative on the development of the movies from the very beginning. So yes it's a textbook and possibly a little dry, but if you want to learn an absolute ton about film I'd recommend powering through it. |
