Review # 1 was written on 2013-02-12 00:00:00 Joe Joe This is a book with the biography of Ralph Baruch, an important person in broadcasting, cable and syndication. A business builder pur sang. The book is an excellent written story that keeps the reader interested. Amongst others it includes stories of: - The Dumont Network, one of the early tv networks - History of CBS before it was split - history of broadcasting overall - history of cable TV - political issues with e.g. "fin-syn" and cable regulation - carve out of Viacom from the CBS company. Author became CEO of the little Viacom. - M&A stories by Viacom itself. Takeovers of cable companies, TV stations. The growth of Viacom was astonishing - Takeover attempts of Viacom by others - Content production. Like e.g. Cosby show which became immensily profitable for Viacom - creation of Showtime channel - Aquisition of MGM assets like MTV, Nickelodeon, VH-1 and the MovieChannel - eventual takeover of Viacom by Sumner Restone - Paramount and CBS aquisition ... This is a book with a LOT of content. It will also give a good insight on broadcast and cable TV. It also makes statement on future: i.e. telco's stepping in TV and content. And this was before AT&T aquired DirecTV or Warner. A wow-read, easily deserving four stars.

Review # 2 was written on 2018-05-29 00:00:00 Tristin Walerko I had high hopes for this book, I like Davina but this just hasn't done her justice. The writing wasn't great and it spent more time going off on tangents about other people/events it spoiled it for me e.g. Her daughter was due on the same day as the 9/11 incident - then talks in detail about the dreadful atrocities that occurred. After skipping large paragraphs, I eventually gave up! This doesn't happen often with me but I just didn't want to waste precious reading time - too many other books on my to be read pile Sorry Davina, you need another writer
