Review # 1 was written on 2013-03-22 00:00:00 John Roberts This book is excellent in terms of information. It's a fantastic history of the chain of Chicago mayors, with biographical information interspersed as well as some pretty in depth analysis of their political ties and leanings and how that led to the current (as of publication) political landscape of Chicago. That said, it's a very formal book and is meant for academic/political analysis rather than the casual reader. I read it as a supplement to a Chicago history course, and it was a fantastic addition to the curriculum. However, having a professor who had intimate knowledge of both the book and the politics/history being analyzed was incredibly helpful. So, heads up for the casual reader! It IS a great book with wonderful information, but mentally prepare yourself for a bit of a slog until you find your feet. |
