Review # 1 was written on 2009-02-14 00:00:00 Diana F Orhun The children’s literature book “Jazz Dancing” by Mark Thomas is a good read for children interested in dance or children already participating in dance, ballet, jazz. It is a small picture book that is loaded with information for young children about people and places around the world. It’s recommended for ages five to seven (K-1st grade), each page features a full colorful photograph and a few short sentences in very large font. The text in the book is very simple allowing the child to start reading independently with little help from mom/dad. The story talks about the style of dance and a few different dance moves done by dancers. My daughter is a first grader and she got this book from her school library and loves it. She dances and loves to see the picture in the book of the child doing the “pike jump”. The book gives great illustration visuals to any young dancer or any child interested in the art of dance. The author Mark Thomas has written over fifty children’s and young adult books and the “Jazz Dancing” issue is definitely consistent with the predictable print and text patterns he uses to help and encourage emerging readers.

Review # 2 was written on 2009-08-13 00:00:00 Stephanie Reichel This is a unique and indispensable (for me, at least) reference work. It's a guide to films in which jazz (and some blues) musicians either have written the score for or appear in. My copy is a 1977 edition published by Arlington House. I imagine that the book has been updated since then.
