There's lots of good information in here, but I just kind of hate books that are so aggressively PINK and GIRLY when they are aimed at adult women. I think a book like this is way more visually appealing for teens, even though lots of the info is aimed at an older demographic (see the segments on pregnancy and menopause). It's very readable, and I like that the answers don't talk down to readers (for the most part) or hand down judgment along with information. But comparing this to Body Drama... I don't know. That's a book ostensibly aimed at teens, but by including things like photographs of real people and cutting out the GIRLY GIRLY GIRLY PINK AND OH YES GIRLY vibe I found it way more readable. There's also a lot of overlap in content, though obviously the more grown up aspects of What The Yuck aren't available. I'm having trouble pinpointing my issue with this book. I think that a less stodgy format, making things light and easy to relate with, is great in body books. Maybe I just don't like the infantile attitude that seems inherent in the title, color scheme, and cartoony cover. It's not a book I'd want to be seen reading in public, for example. So. Yes. It's a handy book, and if you aren't put off by the girlishness of a book aimed at adult women, then it's probably pretty useful!

I really enjoyed my nightly read of "What the Yuck?" The book covered a variety of topics, from "Under the Sheets" (one of my fave chapters) to questions on cleansing diets, cotton ear swabs, and hair coloring. It was refreshing to hear Dr. Raj clarify what is hype (cleansing diets!) vs what can actually help improve one's health. The question/answer style of the book made it especially easy to read. My only dislike was probably that the editors chose to intersperse random statistics throughout the book. For a book written by a doctor, statistics that do not include a sample size or a source citation, are unimpressive to say the least. Still, I think it's a great read for any young(ish) woman. We rarely have the time nor the courage to ask our doctors many of the questions that we ponder. Dr. Raj answers some of these questions for us.
