Review # 1 was written on 2019-08-07 00:00:00 Michael Fitsimons This is a book filled with illustrations and photos of urban structures and planning as expounded over the last century or two. It's a product of the New Urbanism movement that emphasizes walkable, green, sustainable cities over our (American), car oriented system. It's organized loosely on the principles in the NU charter. A useful reference books for urban planners and citizen activists who want a better future for our urban places. Having been in European and Asian cities that are compact and walkable has been mostly an enjoyable experience for me. I wish our American cities could be as nice and not a shrine to the ruthless auto. |
Review # 2 was written on 2009-01-23 00:00:00 James Mulder This is a gorgeous book. It will be of interest to planners, architects, art historians, and anyone interested in cities and their design. Besides being worthwhile and useful for its content, it is beautiful enough to make a great coffee-table book! |
