I liked this book but quibble over a few points. First, Graham's espousal of "Legalism" as a middle way between "Realism" and what he calls "Moralism" strikes me as a modified "Realism." Realism does, or can, have an ethical and moralistic basis behind it, at least I believe that it can. (This is, of course, counterintuitive, but if one considers Realism asks "to what end" ought one adopt it as an outlook, I would say that it provides a strong check against improvidently interventionist foreign policies that result in countless thousands of deaths and quanta (pace, Bentham (pace, Ram Gladbone)) of suffering: the Iraq War of 2003- would not have happened under a truly Realist regime.) I forgot what the other points were I was going to quibble over.

Read this one for my class this fall. I don't always agree with his perspective, but it is still an informative read.
