This is a good gift book for a girlfriend sympathetic to the plight... as I once put it... to someone who occasionally calls a box of macaroni and cheese and a pint of Ben & Jerry's "dinner." Speaking of macaroni and cheese, a recipe is included in "Girl Food" which I have used and can attest to its quality -- although since, I have found other recipes for macaroni and cheese which I like better (Cathy's includes processed cheese, not cheddar or something different). I especially remember that a certain recipe for waffles which contain orange zest was too rich for me, and I like rich foods. Perhaps they are too rich for breakfast? Anyway, the most fun aspect of the book is the categories into which the book is divided... foods that have to do with one's mood, one's need to lose five pounds, one's need to recover from romance gone wrong (and other disasters), and on and on...

This book was a gift from my mom back when I was still single. It's funny, interestingly arranged (food for after a breakup, food to cook for your date, etc) and has mostly tasty, very easy recipes. Nothing particularly special about the recipes except for the humor of the presentation, so only a so-so rating.
