As a photographer and an absolute mountain freak, i thought this would be an interesting read. I find the thought of the untamed west not only thrilling, but extremely fascinating. Call me odd, but i could spend hours browsing through the online photo catalogs of the old west and pioneer towns. As such, i started reading about the life of William Henry Jackson and his life photo-documenting the untouched west. This man was the first to photograph Yellowstone National park for goodness sake and most likely the first white man to see much of what we adore in the West. This book is probably one of the most engaging reads Ive had in a long time. Its simply one of those books that you cant put down and cant wait to pick back up again. For an individual living in the mid 1800's - the amount of minute detail about his life is not only incredible but extremely captivating. I would HIGHLY recommend this book.

This was a good book for a non-fiction historical book. Sometimes those books are tedious for me, but this was well-written and easy to ready. It took me awhile to finish, but it was not the book's fault. The book is about William Henry Jackson, one of the first well-known photographers in America. He traveled west and photographed the uncivilized west, and his photos were used to convince Congress to begin setting aside tracts of land for national parks.
