I loved this book. It builds upon McKay's Carthage Conspiracy, and really explains the political climate that led to Joseph Smith's murder by a mob in 1844. If you're interested in Joseph's role in politics or his presidential bid, I highly recommend it. I didn't give it 5 stars because the footnotes weren't all that helpful.

I've finished this excellent book which I set on my shelf in December and picked up today. The book delves into the political world of the 1840s and the military-style assassination of a presidential candidate and his brother in broad daylight. Not a fiction, this book uncovers the story of how two brothers were murdered in broad daylight because political oponents in the Whig Party and a Democratic governor didn't want the competition from an independent candidate running for President of the United States of America in 1844, Joseph Smith. The motives and methods for the broad daylight assassination are examined and backed up with careful research made possible by today's Internet connections. If you're someone who has studdied Abraham Lincoln, or Henry Clay, or Joseph Smith, this book will be of real interest to you.
