Review # 1 was written on 2010-12-16 00:00:00 Jermy Lane Required reading for a graduate class in school counselor preparation, although I can easily see it being applicable to those working in an educational leadership role as well (principals, etc.). This manual seeks to give information on how to prepare for and handle a variety of different crisis likely to be encountered in a school setting, covering terrorism (domestic or otherwise), natural disasters, school shootings, medical emergencies (both individual and epidemic in nature), and more. Unlike a lot of textbooks in the education field, it not only directs the reader to additional resources in print or electronic, but includes the most immediately useful and necessary of parts of those resources in each section (i.e. response protocols, checklists, scripts, and forms). It is engaging, topical, applicable, and refreshingly in this field, is not redundant in the information it is presenting.

Review # 2 was written on 2013-07-11 00:00:00 Meghan Dawson Fascinating insight into the minds of 10 school shooters ranging from 11 to 23 years of age, and 5 potential school shooters that the author has solid reasons to assume he deterred from going on with their plans. The research is sound, the information is, as much as possible, very accurate, and the book doesn't lose itself in speculations about the shooters' lives. The insight of the author - a psychiatrist himself - is very valuable to a criminology/sychology student such as myself, especially through the discussion of preventive behaviours/actions. I thoroughly enjoyed this work and hope to find more, written as cursively as this.
