Interesting at times - if you grew up in Boxford, MA; not so interesting at times, even if you did grow up in Boxford. The 1879 book is intriguing for the very reason that Boxford rarely sneaks into the broader summaries of history. Admittedly, some of the book's most interesting parts are Boxford's reaction or participation in an event centered elsewhere (the events in Boston during the American Revolution, neighboring Salem during the witch hunts). All in all, it's a fairly dry book that I can't imagine would be to interesting to a reader who didn't feel some interest, for example, in the scattered details of a man named Spofford or Stiles because the reader himself went to Spofford Elementary School or learned to swim in Stiles Pond. There are quite a few lists of names and family trees, lists of prices, and laborious descriptions of choosing the new deacon - but still knowing some details of the town you grew up in's history can be a bit fascinating.

Really comprehensive and detailed history. Anyone interested in the early history of Massachusetts would enjoy this.
