I just in the past year have become intrigued with process philosophy, but I don't really remember how I learned it existed; I think I googled Alfred North Whitehead to find out who he was--I knew the name for some reason, but nothing else. I have been picking up and putting down his work "Process and Reality", but in truth it is nearly impenetrable. It's not that the concepts are so complex but Whitehead created a whole separate lexicon to express them, so trying to learn that and soak in his ideas at the same time has been difficult. There are a lot of books about Process that explain it for non-philosophers (count me in that group) and I have been relying on those heavily, and this one is far and away the best one I have come across. Process theory has had a huge impact on me--I haven't encountered a way of explaining existence that so perfectly syncs with science and a modern way of looking at the world, not to mention my own intuitions about "how things are". Hosinksi explains the technical structure of process incredibly well, but what surprised me was how adeptly he handled Whitehead's concepts about God. I am agnostic most days, and have generally skipped over or not focused much on what I saw as Whitehead's shoehorning of God into process theory. I really could not have been more wrong about that, and for understanding it so much better, I have Hosinski to thank (literally, I wrote him an email and thanked him).

I'd say this is the best introduction to Whitehead's metaphysics for the nontechnical philosopher or layman. Hosinski's use of examples and analogies reinforce, greater than any other introduction, the language of Whitehead's metaphysics. Although I think the best introduction to Proccess & Reality is no introduction. Whitehead's Process & Reality, it's introductory chapters, lays out, proposition by proposition, the doctrines required in order to make his system work. I think having a look at that and then reading this would probably make for a great primer before one dives into Process & Reality.
