Review # 1 was written on 2018-06-11 00:00:00 Joseph Jacko A rather fun and gossipy read. Eric Kemp was probably the last interesting diocesan bishop in the Church of England and was cut from cloth that is extremely unfashionable these days. As both a scholar and a traditionalist, he would be considered anathema by many in the contemporary church, and yet he had a considerable influence in the Church of England throughout his distinguished career. Kemp writes in a gentle and appealing way and certainly allows himself to indulge in some pleasant nostalgia. Best enjoyed with a pot of tea or glass of sherry before Evensong. |
Review # 2 was written on 2010-08-06 00:00:00 Jeffrey Ellis It's hard to write completely objectively for a younger audience, so I have to forgive the seemingly slanted prose. This was a very thorough, informative book for young readers. I probably would have offered a copy to my sixth graders in our nonfiction section if I were still teaching. |
