I'm playing from the Sevcik series and I can feel the improvement, though if students are too young, a teacher shouldn't give them this, they will only struggle to learn it, because it has some very hard excercises. Here is how I'd put it: If a student practices at least 1/2 hours a day or more, is in middle/high school/or college, and the teacher thinks he/she is ready for this book- I think it could do wonders. But if you are just beginning to play violin (that means your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year), no matter how talented a violinist you are, it would be more than a challenge to you to try to play this. I've seen kids 8, or 9 years old on youtube trying to play the paganini capricces or the tchaikovsky concertos, it just doesn't work, even if the kid succeeds- he/she will not feel good about themselves because they had to work too much to get to that level. So I think this could be very helpful if the teacher and the student are aware of were the student is on the level line. A very good and practical etude book, I would most likely recommend. It would help you with any piece you're playing. Level of playing: Very high
