I was really excited when my son and I found this book at the library. Anything that encourages him to read gets 5 stars in my book. The story is ultimately about perception which is quite cute at the end. While I absolutely love the idea of reading together, I didn't really feel like he was reading or being challenged to read. Asking him to read the word, "chair" in large letters under a giant picture of a chair was a bit of a giveaway. In other words, he wasn't reading the word, he was looking at the picture. I kept reminding myself, however, that some reading specialist out there would probably tell me this is part of the process and they're probably right. I think it did more for his confidence than mine and ultimately that is what matters and what we're hoping to build in him. We will try more in the series and see how it goes.
