Review # 1 was written on 2013-04-18 00:00:00 Shana Beckner I picked this up at a used book shop because I'm trying to be more scientifically literate. I knew there was no way I'd have the attention span to read a textbook straight through, so I split it up into four sections of three chapters each, and read one section every 3 weeks or so. In the beginning, I spent a lot of time making sure I was actually learning what I was reading: I'd stop to do the problems, check my answers in the back and even do some problems at the end of the chapter. Then I started doing that less. Then I stopped doing the problems all together, because I realized there was no way I was going to retain the information anyway. (And it's not like I was going to actually study this stuff and hammer it into my brain, since I wasn't preparing for a test.) By my last two sections, I ended up doing a lot of skimming. In the end, I'm not sure how much I learned. But I consider it a worthwhile experience anyway, because at least I tried to learn something. |
Review # 2 was written on 2010-01-26 00:00:00 Deborah Long This book is decently helpful for my freshman chemistry class... A whole lot more than my half-brained professor, and by that I mean literally he has only part of his brain. |
