One of Congar's later works, looking at a number of topics but with his usual emphasis on pneumatology, ecclesiology, ministires and ecumensim. Very accessable in both language and content and thus would probably be a good introduction for someone with little theological background (at least compared to his other books). But there is also a lot of depth here, especially in his valuing of prayer, and in the profound mystical escatology he draws from scripture and the Fathers in the final chapter. "Called to Life" is not a classic like some of his other works ("Lay People", "Divided Chrisendom", "True and False Reform", "I Believe in the Holy Spirit", etc.) but reading this confirmed once again why I love Congar. His theological instincts are just so on point.

Excellent. "The essential thing is that the Spirit must be present, active and a living reality in our everyday existence" (p. 74).
