Review # 1 was written on 2015-11-02 00:00:00 Deborah Long This book was a lovely tribute to a wonderful mother and father by a son, but felt like an "insider's book" targeted towards a specific community. The most valuable piece of information that I got from it was advice on the best ways to console someone who is mourning. This is what I gleaned: a) show up in person to give consolation, b) acknowledge the situation, c) listen, d) accept silence, e) tell a good story about the person who died, f) remind the mourner of something nice that the deceased said about him or her, g) say nice, good, cheerful things to lift the mourner up and make them feel better, and take the time to think about what this would be in advance, since everyone is different. |
