Review # 1 was written on 2011-02-08 00:00:00 Gerald Fogerty A good read - I like the introduction. Hines specifically tells you what the book is about - how Faulkner used architecture and how it shaped his writing/our experience of his text. The breakdown according to according to building types such as stores, landscapes features such as memorials, and styles such as the usual "romantic" idioms is well thoughout. The author is honest as to his interest and perspective. He does not mention other scholars as much as he might though. The photography though is exquisite. Lengthy quotations permeate and situate the interpretation. |
Review # 2 was written on 2008-04-24 00:00:00 Amy Luster Written by an architecture professor with familial connections to Faulkner, this book provides an overview of architectural styles at play in Faulkner's fiction by style rather than by book. |
