I liked this easy-to-read book about Robert Fulton. I liked that they make the distinction that he was an innovator and improved the already existing steam boats, but didn't actually invent it. Historically, that tends to get lost, so I'm glad they make that important point. I really liked all the paintings and drawings that they include. They really enhance the book. My favorite picture was of an image of the actual newspaper article written by Robert Fulton with the specifics of his first successful voyage up the Hudson. I wish it was bigger, but I was able to read the tiny print to my son and we both found it pretty cool. The text of the book is very basic, but gives a good overview of his life. I'd really recommend reading this book accompanied by a more detailed book of his life such as "Robert Fulton - From Submarine to Steamboat".

1. None 2. Grades 1-3 3. This book tells the story of Pocahontas and how she maintained the peace between the English Colonists and the Natives. The narrative follows her life and accomplishments up until her death in England at the age of 21. 4. I like this version of the classic tale of Pocahontas because it's simply stated and brief, but also includes extra information in boxes on the page. The information is accurate and interesting, covering the important parts of her life and effortlessly capturing her bravery and strength in the illustrations. 5. This story could be used as an individual or small group instruction for reading. The text is simple enough for young readers to understand, and students could easily pull facts from the text for an activity (small group) or to assess comprehension in a conference (individual).
