This is a very difficult read, particularly if you are not familiar with literary theory, but also because often times the authors just can't communicate what they're thinking in a digestible fashion. I can only compare it to that point in learning a foreign language before fluency when you can pick up a book in that language, can read the words and even pronounce them, but cannot comprehend the sentence or paragraph. If you already read Spanish, you might have had a similar experience trying to read something in Portuguese, that moment when you think "Wait, what?" right before you realize you just read Portuguese. We used this text in a graduate seminar and it was not well received.

This book is absolutely path breaking. The contributors look at the interplay of medieval philosophy and modern theory. You learn a bit about the intellectual achievements of the Middle Ages and a lot about critical theory, things you’d never expect. I’ve read most of this book twice and have learned a great deal, and I consider myself well-read in theory.
