Review # 1 was written on 2016-01-30 00:00:00 Alessandra Zacchino Confession: I only read the sections of this book which discussed works I had already read, a bit more than 2/3 of the book. The sections I read were wonderful--clear, nuanced and insightful. This book gave me a much better understanding of the work English lit as pertaining to India was actually doing, and the ways in which these agendas influenced British policy and attitudes in India for centuries. The sections on Owenson, Shelley and Mill were especially compelling. I am sure I'll be coming back to this book often in my own work. |
Review # 2 was written on 2014-02-24 00:00:00 Steve Goodsell This book was a phenomenal read. Very expansive and contextualised. A beautifully crafted collection of essays by some of the very best writers in the field. Probably one of the best pieces of work on this subject matter. |
