Review # 1 was written on 2009-09-05 00:00:00 Halcombe Kendall This is a fantastic overview on the history of AIDS in Africa. Iliffe is a renowned African historian and has written several really great Africa history books. This one is very easy to read for someone who doesn't know much about HIV/AIDS in Africa - and that is the point, he wrote it as a broad basis for the AIDS epidemic, how it came to be, where it may be going, and what happened in between. I read it to do research for a paper I was writing, but I'm glad I did. It is a fantastic overview. I recommend it to anyone interested in AIDS in Africa as a basis for starting research. |
Review # 2 was written on 2019-02-25 00:00:00 Cal Larcombe Fantastic, brilliant work that puts a few other books on AIDS to shame (so tempted to list the authors whose work was disappointing) This is an essential component, in case you read The Epidemic, or other ridiculously Americentric books claiming to offer a global perspective. Not only did the author cover this with excellent detail, his work is first-rate, and relatively quite readable. I would recommend this book strongly to anyone with even a casual interest in this topic, it's illuminating. |
