This introductory text is heavily slanted towards properties of the prime numbers, and omits many traditional subjects such as Diophantine equations. It goes into quite a bit of depth on the distribution of prime numbers. The approach is chatty and leisurely, with a lot of historical context given. There are lots of worked examples and there are good exercises (no answers are given, though). Overall a very good text, but deeper and not as broad as most competing texts.

University does like to give its students ponderous books... Okay then. Kamen tries his best despite having problems with defining several concepts like slavery, poverty and class. But thumbs up for trying mr. Kamen. :P
