Review # 1 was written on 2011-10-19 00:00:00 James Smith Although highly theoretical and academic (which is why it gets 4 stars) Rodriguez does an excellent job of revealing the inner workings of the prison system and its innate connection to chattel slavery and bureaucracy. I loved the excerpts from some of the best "prison narratives" such as those of George Jackson and Angela Davis. If you are interested in learning about the Prison Industrial Complex, read this book! |
Review # 2 was written on 2011-10-14 00:00:00 Andrew Templeton RodrÃguez isn't afraid to demand some effort from his readers. Those not up to it can jump like a frog on lily pads from block quote to generous block quote of excerpts from RodrÃguez's incarcerated interlocutors. |
