I like the woman--I feel that I understand what she's about, the duality, Geminiian qualities, urge to make outrageous art, and just her"thing". This is a scholarly, well-written exploration of the practice of looking within the body through surgery through the centuries... grotesque and all, illuminating. My professor helped write the book, and she's awesome, so there's an extra interest in Orlan for me. Truly a conversation-fuel.

an extraordinary book that focuses on the surgery art of the 'female-to-female transgendered' saint orlan. this perhaps isn't quite the book on orlan that i dream about, but it is thoughtful and knowledgeable and it surprised me with an excellent chapter on the history of human dissection.
