For high school students. This books is full of pictures and information, but it gets super specific to locations throughout ancient Egypt. The book often supplements with maps and illustrations to make the text more exciting, but the text itself is dense and hard to get through. The same size and height as DK Eyewitness books, it seems as if this book probably gets mistaken for children's books all the time. However, it is not. It is an informative book for those taking an ancient History class, probably in high school.

"About 12,000 years ago most of the North Africa was dominated by Ancient Egypt power" (Geraldine Harris#10) The informative book "Ancient Egypt" was written by Geraldine Harris. The story begins when the rulers of Ancient Egypt were known as the lords of the Two lands. Ancient Egypt at that time was divided into two parts, the lower parts and the Upper parts. The lower parts were the north of Egypt and the Upper parts were the south of Egypt. Both of these lands were first united under one ruler in the periods of 3100 B.C . The population of ancient Egypt was never lower or higher than 4 million people until Greeks and Romans came to Ancient Egypt. Upper and Lower Egypt were both divided into different kinds of districts and each one had its own administrative center. Those centers were not large because most people worked in farms or villages. All villages had their own leader such as governors, nome, or monarch. But mostly, all power came from the king. In Egypt the king is called the pharaoh, which means the royal majesty. In theory the pharaoh had absolute power over his people and is the greatest power of all Egypt. Egyptian kings thought to get authority from gods and to be kind of divine themselves. The role of the kings was expected to build temples for the gods and to keep them happy by offering them gifts and sacrifices. Gods in Ancient Egypt are an important part of their culture. Every god symbolizes an element or attributes. Therefore Egyptians are considered to be one of the most advanced civilization. Hence, Egyptians have been one of the strongest and most admired country in the world. As one can see, the book "Ancient Egypt" is an informative and resourceful book that give us a clear image about this amazing civilization. "Egyptian deserts contained various kinds of precious metals, semiprecious stones and especially rich and valuable gold".(Geraldine Harris#53). Pharaohs and kings had many legacy's. One of the Legacy Egyptian left to our world is their incredible and rich knowledge of science, mathematics, physics, reading and most importantly writing. The wonderful pyramids are also one of the most amazing legacies ever left. The Egyptian had valuable wisdom over land which made them one of the most powerful and unique civilization at that period of time. These pharaohs had a mammoth amount of riches and certainly were the richest kings and queens in the world. Most importantly Egyptians had a strange but interesting culture which make them one of the first people who had democracy and a monarchy which at that time influenced all the world. An important achievement Egyptians have made was their expansion. In a period of time Egypt had conquered Present-Day Palestine and Syria, which made Egypt one of the biggest and strongest countries in Northern Africa and part of Asia. One important conflict in Egyptian rule was the Persian invasion. One cause of this war was Persia had become one of the strongest powers of Asia, their leader Cambyses wanted to expand their land and decided to invade Egypt. The Effect was that he successfully overthrew the Pharaoh by shocking the world by his brutality and strength which then crushed the Egyptian empire. Later on the strong and young leader Alexander the Great conquered the Persian empire and is hailed by Egyptian people as to be their savior. As one can see, these changes effected Egypt and its rulers. I would recommend this book to people who adore reading about new cultures and discovering the greatness of the Egyptian civilization and their people. This book is considered to have many facts that could help a student or teacher discover new subjects and facts about Egypt. "Ancient Egypt" is a very interesting book that may open new topics of conversation about Egyptian religious beliefs and culture. The theme, in this book is religious belief because people at that time had different religions that consisted to worship god in a different kind of way's. Hence, the author's literary techniques made the book fantastic. As one can see, the book "Ancient Egypt" is considered to be really interesting and resourceful.
